If you haven't heard the news by now, Internet social networking sites are all the rage. A social network is basically an online network of members dedicated to a specific online community. Most times, these sites are free as they survive from selling advertisement on their sites. Many social networks offer members the ability to locate other online members who share common interests or fit a certain search criteria. Most of these sites provide multiple ways to communicate like instant messaging, texting, and email.
And that's not all -- you can even create a customized page for yourself that tells the world who you are and what you're all about. Some members of these networking sites have public profile pages where anyone can see their information and uploaded photos, while others choose a private profile accessible by only the other members they have approved as friends. Millions of people around the world use social networking sites every single day, with the two most popular sites in North America being MySpace and Facebook.
Anyone over the age of 13 can enjoy the benefits of membership, however there are other networking sites like Wee World especially designed for younger children. If you think social networking sites are for teens and college kids only, think again. Adults of all ages can and do enjoy the advantages of online social networking. Social networking sites can be used to keep track of classmates, coworkers, friends, family or even to meet new people. In addition to correspondence many of these networks offer games, music and videos to enjoy.
If you're ready to jump into the world of Internet social networking, the first thing you'll need to do is set up an account. Registering for a social network membership is quite simple. After filling out a basic form and confirming via email you are ready to build your profile page. It can be as simple or involved as you want, there are many tools that can be used (such as free HTML templates also known as layouts) to give your page a customized look. In addition to describing yourself and your interests in boxes of text on your profile, you can upload photos and videos to your profile albums to share with designated friends. It has never been easier or more fun to keep track of your friends and family than it is with social networking sites.
